Baby Jogger City Select 2 Stroller Compared to City Select Original

I love everything about our Baby Jogger City Select stroller and when I saw that they came out with a Baby Jogger City Select 2 stroller, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it and provide an awesome stroller review! I currently have the City Select Original and after a few weeks testing out the new City Select 2, I can tell you they are both great! I am excited to give you an in-depth comparison of the two to help you make your selection on which one would work best for your family easier.

Baby Jogger gifted me the City Select 2 stroller, but all the review below is my honest opinion.

Why I originally bought the original Baby Jogger City Select stroller...

When I was pregnant, I did a lot of research on baby products (it is so overwhelming as a first time parent!!). I knew that I wanted to invest in a stroller that would not only be with us with our first baby but also as we grew our family. I liked how we could buy a second seat to turn it into a double stroller when we were ready. I also really liked how versatile it was, there are so many configurations for the City Select (keep reading to see my fav). We used the Britax B-Safe 35 Infant seat and was able to buy a $20 adapter on the Baby Jogger website to turn it into a travel system stroller.

My husband, Mike, and I wanted something that was built strong that we would be able to use wherever we went. We are defiantly a couple who loves adventure and wanted to continue to be able to share those adventures with our new baby. Since buying it, we've brought it pretty much everywhere with us! We have used it on pavement, grass, sand, gravel, dirt, and more and the ride is so smooth.

My original City Select is the color Slate. My City Select 2 is Harbor Grey.

Comparing the City Select 2 to the original City Select

What Is Different Between Them?

Trim

The very first thing I noticed when opening the City Select 2 was that the trim was black instead of silver and it makes it look SO sleek and modern. The mesh under basket on both strollers so the 2 all blends together really nice. Depending on the color you pick for the 2, the stroller can come with leather detailing on the handle as well as the seat bar which add a nice luxurious look.

Collapsing / Breaking It Down

Both strollers have the same "fold handles" which you pull to be able to fold the stroller up. When I bought my original City Select, I didn't realize that when you go to break down the stroller you have to take the seat off and then fold up the base. It doesn't take much time to do but does make it an extra step when breaking down the stroller. On the other hand, the City Select 2 offers a one step compact fold while keeping the seat attached.

 Brake

For me, the brake feature is my favorite change between the original and the 2. The original has a hand brake which is located on the upper right part of the stroller. Once you figure out how to use it, it isn't confusing at all. However, when others have used our stroller, they struggle trying to figure out how to use the hand bake. The 2 has a foot brake that you can easily kick with your shoe to put the brake on or off.

Locking After Collapsing

This is my husbands favorite change! On the original, once you collapse the stroller you have to manually move the "lock hook"to lock the stroller. This basically just makes it so that the stroller won't open while you are carrying it. The 2 auto locks once you collapse it.

Under-Seat Storage Basket

The storage basket on both the original and 2 are really good sizes! The 2 has a slightly lower front which makes it easier to put things in/take them out. The original has a zipper in the front  if you needed more space to put things in.

Weight

The weight of the 2 is slightly lighter than the original. To be honest, it is a heavier stroller but that is because of how heavy duty and well built it is. The original is 28 pounds and the 2 is 26 pounds.

What Do They Have In Common?

There are many features/ functionality that both the City Select Original and City Select 2 share.

Seat Back Storage

Behind each seat there are mesh storage pouches for storage. When we walk to get the mail I normally slip the mail in there, or throw some snacks in if we are out and about!

Adjustable Seat Recline

Both strollers allow the seat to recline for on the go rests! Our son naps in ours in the recline position and I just hook our portable sound machine right to the side of the stroller. The peek-a-boo window is perfect to check in on them too!

UV Canopy

Both strollers have an extended UV-50 canopy with a peekaboo window to keep the kids shaded when needed. I like that they fold down pretty low so when the child is napping it provides a good amount of darkness. My son loves to play peekaboo with me with the shade and window! I also feel that that fabric of the canopy on the 2 is nicer than the original.

Never- Flat Wheels

The wheels on both strollers are great because they are never-flat wheels and all terrain tires. You don't have to worry about anything happening to the tires and they can be brought anywhere!

Endless Configurations

As mentioned earlier, one of the reasons I bought my original City Select was because of its ability to grow with your family. The stroller can easily covert from a single to a double or triple. On top of that, there are SO many configurations (24!!)  and accessories that can be used with both the original and the 2. We love the snack tray which you will see on my original. Check out below which configurations are my favorites and which ones I expect to use the most when we are ready to be pushing around 2!

Price

The original City Select was $499 but now that the 2 is out, the original is $350. Depending on the color you choose, The City Select 2 is either $499 or $599. The higher priced colors include leather on the handles and seat bar.

Overall, my favorite features on the 2 are that you can collapse the stroller with the seat attached and it auto locks. It eliminates a few steps that you have to do with the original, like removing the seat and manually locking it. The overall concept of the strollers are the same and you can't go wrong with either! If you have a $400 & under stroller budget, the original is a GREAT option! If you have a bit larger of a budget, the new features are worth it! Note* buying the stroller includes 1 seat, to buy the additional seat you have to purchase a 2nd seat adapter kit.

Second, take a look at the photos. If the home looks clean and well-kept in the photos, it's likely that it is. Finally, contact the host and ask any questions you may have about the cleanliness of the home. san diego airbnb cleaning
